Ferrari-charged engines for new Alfas in a bid to take on BMW

Alfa Romeo is leaning on the hind legs of Ferrari for added ‘umph’ in the Italian brand’s overhaul.

The cachet and horsepower of the Ferrari is now being incorporated by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, in an effort to turn Alfa Romeo into a profit-hungry pony.

Fiat has plans to develop a new line of rear-wheel powered vehicles to help taken on BMW Group.

The new models are expected to hit our shores in 2016, with high-end turbo-charged models fitted with Ferrari-developed engines.

With Fiat’s take-over of Chrysler and surging demand for new cars in the European motor industry following signs of economic recovery, it may be a case of now or never for the Italian sports car brand.

Giuseppe Berta, a Bocconi University professor said:

“To beat the German premium brands, he needs to make Alfa unique. His best chance is Ferrari engines and Italian design.”
